Emmanuel College’s Commencement Ceremony is Saturday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the John W. Swails Center Auditorium as approximately 150 graduates transition from college classes to career choices.
Delivering this year’s commencement address is Dr. Culbreth Young Melton, who served as the sixth president of the College from 1970 to 1983. He is a 1947 graduate of Emmanuel and joined the faculty full time in the 1960s.
“Dr. C.Y. Melton has distinguished himself as a scholar, administrator and teacher,” says EC President Michael Stewart. “His love for Christ is profoundly evident, and his love for Emmanuel College is contagious. He has left a mark on the College that will be remembered forever. Celebrating our 95 years as an institution would not be complete without him.”
Under Dr. Melton’s administration, a four-year School of Christian Ministries was inaugurated and accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges. The Shaw-Leslie Library was constructed, and the overall quality of the institution improved.
