Austina Jordan, Emmanuel College’s Director of Library Services, is participating in the 2012-13 College Library Directors Mentor Program.
Jordan has been a librarian at Emmanuel since 2007 and was promoted to director this year. She is paired with mentor Oakley Coburn, Library Dean at Wofford College.
Jordan says this opportunity affords her the opportunity to learn from another library director who has several years of experience and knowledge.
"Networking is a vital part of the work of librarians," Jordan says. "We are constantly seeking new ways to share resources and provide better access to our patrons, and the networking we do often opens new doors for our campus community.
"It is so helpful to have a seasoned library director to share ideas with, to get advice from and find new direction and innovation for the Shaw Leslie Library," Jordan adds.
The program was established to help equip first-year library directors to be effective leaders and to meet the challenges that come with directing a library at a small college.
“As we are looking for ways to enable our library to be a welcoming place for scholarship and related activities, I am very excited that Austina will be able to participate in this mentoring program,” says Dr. John Henzel, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Emmanuel. “This can only help in her role as library director and all college constituents who share in the services our library provides.”
Jordan says she also looks forward to building relationships with more than 20 others in the program at the January seminar in Seattle.
