Interlibrary Loan PolicyInterlibrary Loan Policy

Emmanuel College may borrow items the Library does not own from other libraries through Inter Library Loan (ILL). The processing time is normally 7-10 days. Patrons will be notified by phone or e-mail when the inter library loan material has arrived. Patrons can pick up and return ILL materials at the circulation desk. Borrowed materials must be returned to the library 3 days before the due date so they may be packaged for returning to the lending library. If materials are overdue, the patron is responsible for all fines.

Please read the ILL policy below.

Interlibrary Loan Policy

The Shaw-Leslie Library will borrow books and obtain article photocopies from other libraries when needed items are not available from our own resources. Please note the following when requesting items.

  • Inter Library Loan service is available only to Emmanuel College students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Community patrons should use their local public libraries for this service.
  • The library will borrow books and purchase photocopies at no charge up to $5.  The patron will assume any cost above this amount.
  • Students requesting ILL must be current with their library account (no outstanding fines, overdue materials, and your account may not be restricted).
  • Since Emmanuel College is responsible for the material borrowed for you, we must ensure their prompt return when they are due. Failure to return items promptly may result in borrowers being charged for the replacement of the item.
  • All fees, fines, and other charges that are assessed by the lending library against the Shaw-Leslie Library will be passed on to the borrower. Students’ library accounts will be restricted until all overdue materials are returned and fines are paid.
  • Borrowed items must be picked up at the library within 24 hours of you being contacted by email.  Failure to pick up items when notified will not change the due date which has been set by the lending library. These dates cannot be adjusted.  Items not picked up in a timely fashion may be returned to the lending library and your library account be charged for the postage.
  • All students who utilize ILL must sign a statement agreeing to these policies before books or journal articles will be requested.
  • ILL Renewals:  Requests for renewals do not guarantee a new due date.  Renewal requests must be made 1 week before your original due date.  If the renewal is denied by the lending library, the ILL item must be returned on time.  Photocopying is allowed for research purposes at the rate of 10 cents per page.
