Probation and Conditional Guidelines

• As part of your Academic Success Contract, you must spend 1 hour every week in the Student Success Center, located in Aaron 207. This supervised study time is intended to help you manage your time and get help in the subjects that give you difficulty.
• To get credit for this 1 hour you must check in at the desk located inside the door of the Student Success Center. After checking in, you may spend 30 minutes a week in independent study. The other 30 minutes must be spent with a tutor. To get credit for the 30 minutes of tutoring, you must be engaged in one of the following activities:

1.      One-on-one help with an upcoming test, paper, or project.

2.      One-on-one help with a difficult concept being covered in class.

3.      One-on-one help with material scheduled to be covered the next week in class.

4.      One-on-one help with the rough draft of a paper.

5.      Going over reading material with a tutor (read an assignment and then go over chapter end questions with a tutor, or write a summary of the chapter in your own words and have the tutor look over the summary).

6.      Going over assigned problems or questions with a tutor.

·        You are responsible for coming to your tutoring session prepared with questions or activities to work on. Do not expect the tutor, who isn’t taking the class with you and doesn’t know what you are currently working on, to come up with work to fill the 30 minutes. You must fill the entire 30 minutes to get credit.

·        Please note that tutors are scheduled to work according to the subject they tutor. Please schedule your one-on-one tutoring time accordingly.

·        During your 30 minutes of independent study you must be studying. Tutors will be supervising this study time. Email, leisure reading, visiting with friends, text messaging, gaming, and sleeping are not appropriate activities for this study time. If you do not study for the full 30 minutes, you will not get credit.

·        If you do not sign in for your 30 minutes of independent study, and if you do not sign in and work with a tutor for the other required 30 minutes, you will not get credit for your time in the Student Success Center, and will thus be in violation of your Academic Success Contract.
