Periodical ResourcesPeriodical Resources
Emmanuel College Library subscribes to both paper and microfiche periodicals. Periodical Indexes: The most efficient way of finding periodical articles is through index sources, such as Galileo databases, Christian Periodical Index, etc. Galileo provides you with access to over 100 databases in a variety of fields. The most useful databases from a QuickSearch are Academic Search Premier and Research Library (at ProQuest). The earlier periodical articles (published before the 1980s) are indexed in sources such as Reader's Guide To Periodical Literature, Education Index and Christian Periodical Index. Periodical List: After you find the article citations in the hard copy index sources, you can access the full texts in several ways: First, write down the article title, periodical title, the date and page number, then consult Emmanuel College periodical list to see if the library has the periodical. The list is arranged alphabetically by titles and shows the coverage and format for each title, such as hard copy, microfiche or an electronic copy in Galileo. The EC periodical list is in a 3-ring binder beside the computer work stations on the first floor. Microfiche and Hard Copy Periodicals: The microfiche are filed alphabetically by periodical titles in the microfiche cabinet. You can use the microfiche reader-printer to read and print articles. Current periodicals and bound periodicals are shelved alphabetically, and you may make photocopies of articles in the library. If Emmanuel College Library does not have the periodicals you need, you can request interlibrary loan. Attention to ET 101 students: You have completed the required ET 101 Information Literacy Tutorial.
