LIBRARY MISSION
The Shaw-Leslie Library serves the educational community of Emmanuel College by supporting the information, curriculum, and professional needs of students, faculty, staff, and other users of the College. The Library strives to acquire and make accessible a well-balanced collection of materials in a variety of formats to support the College’s instructional programs.
The Library also supports the overall mission of Emmanuel College as a Christ-centered, liberal arts institution which strives to prepare students to become Christ-like disciples who integrate faith, learning, and living for effective careers, scholarship, and service by providing material to aid their personal and spiritual growth.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Construction of the library began in 1980 due to the generosity of Mr. Jack Shaw and others. It was built debt-free and was occupied in the fall of 1981. The Shaw-Leslie Library was named to honor Mr. Shaw’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irby Shaw, and his wife’s parents, Mr.& Mrs. W.N. Leslie.
SERVICES
Library services include circulation, reference, library orientation, and interlibrary loan. If the Library does not own a book needed for research purposes, the book can usually be obtained by inter library loan from another college within 7-10 days.
The Shaw-Leslie Library provides facilities for study, computer access (17 computers in 2 locations), a video room, a music listening area, a children’s literature & young adult collection, and a library instruction classroom. The library also has an Archive room which includes documents of the history of Franklin Springs, Emmanuel College, and the Pentecostal Holiness Church and contains manuscripts, Bibles, photographs, and publications of the founders of the college and the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. The library collection contains almost 90,000 items including 34,691 electronic books.
Electronic resources: The library participates in GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online) which provides the college with electronic access to over 100 databases and approximately 2,000 journals in full-text for research purposes. Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories, and government publications. Library staff provides training in research use of Galileo including choosing databases, searching, verifying subject terms, creating folders of full-text documents, & e-mailing results
