Searching Tips - BOOLEAN OPERATORS

Boolean operators are used to narrow or broaden a search. You can use them to help your search in Catalog, Galileo and Internet.

The following diagrams show how the Boolean operators affect a search. The shaded area represents the searching results.

"AND"  narrows a search.

    Example: Computer and Education
Both terms must appear in a record.

"OR"  Broadens a search.

 Example: Computer or Education

Either or both terms   appear  in a  record.

"NOT"  eliminates terms from a search.

Example: Computer not Education

First term appears, but the second term does not.
