Shaw-Leslie Library serves the educational community of Emmanuel College by supporting the information, curriculum, and professional needs of students, faculty, staff, and other users of the College. The Library strives to acquire and make accessible a well-balanced collection of materials in a variety of formats to support the College’s instructional programs.
The Library also supports the overall mission of Emmanuel College as a Christ-centered, liberal arts institution which strives to prepare students to become Christ-like disciples who integrate faith, learning, and living for effective careers, scholarship, and service by providing material to aid their personal and spiritual growth.
Purpose
The Shaw-Leslie Library provides information services to students, faculty and staff of EmmanuelCollege as well as the community. It has a collection of more than 80,000 volumes including books, music scores, cassettes, disc recordings, video tapes, DVDs, electronic books, and other multimedia materials. Periodical resources include current paper journal subscriptions, newspapers, microfiche, indexing and full-text access contained in the databases of Galileo. Library services include circulation, reference, library orientation, and interlibrary loan.
Background
Construction of the library began in 1980 thanks to the generosity of Mr. Jack Shaw and others. It was built debt-free and occupied in the fall of 1981. The Shaw-Leslie Library was named to honor Mr. Shaw's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irby Shaw, and his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.N. Leslie.
