Following World War II, the college experienced a great growth. Due to the needs of a growing college for more space, President Aaron formulated the idea of a large, new building on the east side of the quadrangle to replace the dining hall which had been destroyed by fire in 1946.

In the summer of 1948, President Aaron purchased ten government surplus buildings for $3,000.00. These buildings provided the necessary materials for the construction of the new complex which Aaron envisioned would house the library, the chapel, and a new dining hall. Students were used to disassemble and transport these buildings from Charleston, South Carolina. Students also helped in the construction of the new facility.

During the 1948-49 term, the Taylor Memorial Building was occupied by the college just as Aaron had planned, despite his nearly fatal heart attack that year. Woodard G. Drum was Dean of the College at that time and was able to step in and complete the building while Mr. Aaron was recuperating. The new building was named as a memorial to Rev. G.F. Taylor, founder and first president of Emmanuel College.

Currently, the Taylor Memorial Building still houses the chapel and the dining hall. The library was moved to the new Learning Resources Center in 1981. Offces for the school of business, the financial aid department and the music department now occupy the speace that was vacated by the library. The chapel is being used as a multimedia auditorium for classes, meeting and weekly services for the school of christian ministries.
