The library facilities in the Taylor Memorial Building were very adequate when completed in 1949; however, as the college continued to grow, these facilities became very cramped for the ever-expanding library resources. By 1979, President C. Y. Melton began to see the need for new construction to accommodate the growing library. Construction began in 1980 and due to the generosity of Mr. Jack Shaw and others, it was completed debt-free and was occupied in the fall of 1981. The Shaw-Leslie Library was so named to honor Jack's parent, Mr. and Mrs. Irby Shaw and his wife's parents, Mr. & Mrs. W.N. Leslie. In addition to housing approximately 90,000 resources for faculty, student, and staff use, the library has 17 computers and a classroom for library instruction.
