The library facilities in the Taylor Memorial Building were very adequate when completed in 1949; however, as the college continued to grow, these facilities became very cramped for the ever-expanding library resources. By 1979,
President C. Y. Melton began to see the need for new construction to accommodate the growing library. Construction began in 1980 and due to the generosity of Mr. Jack Shaw
and others, it was completed debt-free and was occupied in the fall of 1981. The Shaw-Leslie Library was so named to honor Jack's parent, Mr. and Mrs. Irby Shaw
and his wife's parents, Mr. & Mrs. W.N. Leslie. In addition to the library, the Shaw-Leslie Learning Resources Center houses the Psychology department, and computer labs on both floors.
