The construction of Jackson Hall was in two phases spread out over 24 years. Although the college was not in a financial position in 1928 to erect a residence hall, there ;was simply no choice in the matter since the old hotel being used as a dormitory had burned to the ground. Therefore, in the summer of 1928, construction was begun on the first phase of Jackson Hall. Under the leadership of
President Byon A. Jones, the building began to take shape during the 1928-29 academic year. This phase of the "Jones Building" was not occupied until 1934. It still stands today
as the east wing of Jackson Hall. The west wing of Jackson Hall was not constructed until 1953 under the leadership of a new president,
Woodard G. Drum. Jackson Hall was so named following this new construction to honor Mr. Arton Jackson for his out-
standing financial contributions to the college. Currently, the facility is can house
as many as 110 women.
