Pre-Law Program Objectives

   Graduates of our Pre-Law program should know

1.        the primary theoretical and substantive divi­sions of American Law.

2.        the divisions of our national government.

3.        the unique and common functions of American federal, state and local governments.

4.        the trends of Constitutional interpretation.

5.        the organization of, and primary resources in, a legal library.

6.        the main terms and concepts and ideologies of politics and political science.

7.        the stages of development of the Western cul­tural tradition

8.        the stages of development of U.S. history.

 

   Graduates of our Pre-Law program should be able to

9.        write a coherent legal brief in appropriate for­mat, addressing a legal issue.

10.    locate via Lexis-Nexis or find law or legal index appropriate case law and statute law relating to a legal issue.

11.    write an analytical and persuasive research essay that demonstrates an understanding of the appropriate style, documentation method, and for­matting of a legal or historical article.

12.    write an analytical or persuasive research essay using appropriate historical, legal or political theory, based on a given topic.

13.    identify the political, historical, legal and ideo­logical point of view used by scholars of law and history.

14.    score a minimum translated value of 150 on a practice L-SAT examination administered during the senior year.
