Mac Lab OpensMac Lab Opens
September 13, 2007
New iMac Lab Opens in Aaron 101 EC's first Apple computer lab opens today, Sept. 13, featuring 16 iMacs with 21-inch screens. Senior Christian Ministries Major Luke Underwood is the first student to use one of the new iMacs and says it is his first time using a Mac. "I like it already," he says. Until now, EC has only had PC-based computer labs running Windows. This year, those computer labs also were upgraded. Most computer labs on campus are on the first floor of the Aaron Building, which is also where the new Mac Lab is located. "Our communication majors will use Apple computers in the work place, so we are excited to have them learn to use Macs," says Paula Dixon, Communication Department Chair. "We have always been able to teach the Adobe software in our graphic design classes, but it's a little different in a Windows environment. "I appreciate our administration's commitment to equipping our students with job-ready skills," she says. "I also appreciate our ITEC Department's work in this transition. In particular, Leo Satara has been persistent in integrating the Macs into our network." EC's communication majors have used Macs in their video classes for years, but this is the first Mac Lab open to the entire campus. Video students learn Final Cut Pro and Avid software, which are also industry standards. For more information about video or graphic design courses in EC's Communication Department, contact Paula Dixon. | |
