Ray Anthony Raines, II, has earned recognition as a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) 2008 All Conference team. The SSAC selection process includes a review of ‘whole person’ perspective. Not only does Ray excel in athletics, he also excels in academics, and is involved in community service projects. The final selection is determined by confirmation of each of the ten (10) SSAC basketball head coaches.

 

Ray, a 6’ 7” center, is ranked 3rd in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for blocked-shots: 87 (2.9 p/game). Ray is 1st in the SSAC for total rebounds: 252 (93 offensive and 159 defensive @ 8.4 p/game).

 

Ray also provides significant firepower to the offensive game for the EC Lions. He has scored over 306 points, grabbed 20 steals, and dished out 32 assists just in the 2008 season. In two short seasons as an EC Lions, Ray has accumulated an impressive 424 rebounds, 165 blocked shots, 43 assists, 51 steals, and netted 470 points.

 

TJ Rosene, EC Lions Basketball Head Coach, noted that “Ray is consistent, giving his best effort 100% of the time”.

 

"Ray is a senior majoring in Biology - Pre-Med. After graduation in May 2008, Ray

plans on completing his Master of Science in Physical Therapy."

 

Ray, and his wife Sumeko, are residents of Lithonia, GA. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School.
