The Emmanuel College (EC) Lions Basketball Team upset Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) rival Faulkner University Eagles (60-57) in a David vs. Goliath battle in Montgomery, AL, on Sunday, March, 2008. The EC Lions, 7th place in the SSAC, combined a disciplined and well balanced offensive attack with an aggressive defensive battle plan to upend the SSAC 3rd place Eagles.

 

Jeremy Tate and Shawn Courtney led the EC Lions offensive effort with 9 points each. Shawn pulled down 4 rebounds and collected 1 steal. Micah Hayes, Preston Jackson, and Ronny Weihmann each scored 7 points. Preston handed out 2 assists, pulled down 4 rebounds, and blocked 1 shot. Ray Anthony Raines, II, pulled down 6 rebounds and blocked 1 shot. The EC Lions’ defensive attack forced 20 turnovers, and provided for 10 steals. The Lions improved their overall record to 14-16, and 5-12 in the SSAC. Coach Rosene and the EC Lions will be participating in the SSAC tournament being hosted by Lee University, Cleveland, TN. The Lions square off against Auburn University @ Montgomery (AUM) Senators on Wednesday, March 5th, with tipoff set for 1PM.

 

Reggie Dupree led the Eagles offense with 14 points. Durrell Richardson netted 11 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and grabbed 1 steal. Jon Uriarte pulled down 6 rebounds. The Eagles will face Southern Polytechnic on Wednesday with tipoff scheduled for 3:15 PM.
