Private Instruction

Lessons are available for all ages and levels of ability in piano, voice, brass, strings, woodwinds, music theory & composition.  Students may request a student instructor, affiliate instructor, or an Emmanuel College faculty member. Private instruction is based on instructor availability.

 

Children’s Classes

 

Pre-school Music & Motion

Ages 3-5

Dr. Deborah Stark, Instructor

In this interactive class, children will explore the musical concepts of pitch, rhythm, and timbre by singing, playing percussion instruments, improvisation, and interpretive dance.  They will be exposed to a wide range of music including classical, jazz, sacred, and musical theatre.

Kids Art Exploration

K-7th graders

Mrs. Benet Berryman, Instructor

This class will cover the art elements and consist of different art mediums.  It will involve drawing, a combination of mixed-mediums as well as color pencils and watercolors. Basic art materials will be required; pencils, erasers, sketchbook, small portfolio, and a few additional materials during the session. Students will display a final art piece at the conclusion of the semester. The materials/supply fee is approx. $15.00. Class limit 10

 

Kids Musical Theatre

6-12 years old

Dr. Deborah Stark, Instructor

This exciting performance class is designed to develop skills for the singing-actor. The course will cover the basics in theatrical singing, voice projection, dramatic presentation, stage etiquette, dance movement and audition techniques. Students will perform 1-2 final solo and/or group pieces at the conclusion of the semester.

 

Kids Beginner Class Piano

1st-6th graders

Ms. Elizabeth Chitwood, Instructor

This class is designed for students who have not taken piano lessons previously.  Material covered will include basic note reading, rhythms, technique, and theory directly related to playing the piano.  Each student will learn a variety of pedagogical, solo, and ensemble repertoire.  The class time will be divided into the following categories as needed: group instruction, private instruction, and group activities.  Weekly homework will consist of practice assignments and a limited amount of written work. Students should have daily access to a full sized piano or keyboard on which to complete practice assignments. Students must purchase a piano method book (approx. $35.00). Students who have taken this class previously should contact the instructor regarding placement options. Class limit 6

 

Kids Beginning Guitar Class

Ages 5-12

Ms. Laura Ray, Instructor

Students will learn the basics of playing the guitar, including reading standard notation as well as tablature and chord symbols, melody, rhythm, technique, accompaniment, solo and group playing.  Students must supply their own guitar and purchase a guitar method book (approx. $10.00). Class limit 10

 

Creative Writing

5th-12th graders

Mr. Tim Stark, Instructor

Students will hone their writing skills as they discover how to express themselves creatively by writing through observation, words, pictures, sounds, memories, descriptive design, and writing in threes in the form of essay, poetry and short story. Final projects will be displayed at the end of the semester.

 

Music Fundamentals

3rd-12th graders

Dr. Leslie Boucher, Instructor

This class is valuable for both singers and instrumentalists as they learn the basics of note-reading and beginning theory. Notes of two clefs will be covered, along with scales, intervals, chords, and elements of learning how to read and notate simple songs.  We will primarily focus on the musical elements of melody, rhythm, and harmony.

 

Acting I

5th -12th graders

Mrs. Jennifer Benson, Instructor

Students will work on acting techniques including: focus, listening, emotional memory, visualization, movement, voice projection, improvisation, memorization, and teamwork in conjunction with the preparation of dramatic works for performance or future auditions.

 

Teen & Adult Classes
On the Move!  Dancing for stage & screen (8 weeks only)
Ages 9-Adult
Charlie Sanders, Instructor; $96.00; Mondays from 7:30-8:30, Taylor Chapel
Have fun with Disney world dancer, Charlie Sanders, as he  teaches dance movement and skills used for stage and screen choreography.  Posture, technique, and presentation will be emphasized as a dance number is prepared for final performance.  This class is suitable for all levels of dance ability.

 

Class Piano

Beginner & advanced beginner

Ages 13-Adult

Students should have regular access to a full-sized keyboard or piano on which to complete the practice assignments. Students must purchase a piano method book (approx. $30.00). Class limit 6

 

Adult Beginning Guitar Class

Ages 13-Adult

Drawing

Ages 13-Adult

Mrs. Benet Berryman, Instructor

This is a wonderful class for beginners with little or no experience drawing, as well as an excellent refresher for the advanced artist who wants to review basic principles or improve his or her skills. Formal elements of line, value, shape, texture and space are worked individually and in common.  Students will display their  final art pieces at the conclusion of the semester. The materials/supply fee is approx. $15.00. Class limit10

 

Teen/Adult Class Voice

Ages 13-Adult

Mr. Dallas Bono, Instructor

This class will focus on the proper use of breath and support to expand vocal range and power.  Students will learn the basics of vocal placement, and the foundations of "bel canto" or "beautiful singing."  Vocalizes will be implemented in order to build flexibility and control over the voice, and confidence building exercises will help singers "let go" of their voice so that it can be at it's most natural, God given beauty.  Students will learn classical songs in order to demonstrate their newly acquired technique.

 

Conversational German

Ages 13-Adult

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?  Would you like to learn basic German conversational skills?  Then join us for German Conversation class on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m. 

No previous foreign language experience is required.

 

Basic Digital Photography  

7th grade-adult

This class will provide a basic foundation in exposure, composition, lighting, post-processing and critique.  Each student must provide a digital or 35mm camera, a notebook, batteries, memory cards and other resources for taking and storing several hundred photos.

 

Advanced Digital Photography 

11th grade – Adult

Dr. Andy Osborne, Instructor

This class will provide a thorough understanding of exposure, composition, studio, post-processing and critique.  Each student will prepare and exhibit a digital portfolio at the end of the class.  Students must provide a digital or 35mm film SLR with manual controls, preferably with a flash.  Digital cameras other than SLR may be considered based on their manual control features.  Additional materials each student must provide include a notebook and memory cards and batteries for taking several hundred photos.
